M-Audio Fast Track Pro

I recently returned from the Greyfox Bluegrass Festival click here where I spent a long weekend in bluegrass heaven. Greyfox is held each year in upstate New York on the 3rd weekend of July. During the past several years I have volunteered my services as part of the festival’s audio archiving team. My primary duties are making audience recordings of the main stage acts and soundboard recordings of the master workshop stages.

On a whim, I decided to purchase a M-Audio’s Fast Track Pro USB audio interface (click here for specs) to replace an older Edirol UA-5 that had seen better days.  Due to time constraints, I had no time to test my new Fast Track Pro in advance and had my fingers crossed that everything would go smoothly. When I arrived at the festival, I set my condenser microphones up close to the PA system, connected the microphone cables to my new Fast Track Pro and then the Fast Track Pro via USB to my new MacBook.  I launched my favorite audio application and the recording session began. I am happy to report that I was able to record three full days and nights of some of the best bluegrass music on the planet without a single glitch. I am extremely impressed with both the ease of use and reliability of the Fast Track Pro/Macbook combo as well as the exceptional sound of the recordings I made.
