Cold Computers

The University of Wisconsin – Madison has setup base in the south pole. They call it the ‘IceCube Neutrino Observatory’. They will be observing neutrino collisions and working with massive amounts of data. To help them out they’ve setup 2 XServe RAIDs, one will hold the data and the other will act as a backup unit.

Now my Xserve runs at about 100-115 degrees fahrenheit. I think the last time I asked Morgan about the servers here at Small Dog, he said they ran at about the same temperature as mine. I am just wondering how cold these Xserve RAIDs are going to be running.
