We’re digging out of a colossal snowstorm today – one of the biggest snowstorms in recorded Vermont history. Small Dog won’t be open until 12:00 EST. Plows are running behind schedule, and driving conditions are still treacherous. There were times last night when snow was pilling up a couple inches per hour; over 34” piled up in Warren.
The quality of the snow is excellent for skiing and snowboarding, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. And, we can’t forget snowmobiling (Tony.) It’s very expensive to manage a heavy snowfall, but all this snow adds a tremendous boost to our Vermont economy in terms of snow-related sports and snow-sport tourism.
Gusty winds are still causing localized white-out conditions, and drifts have easily piled up over 6’ in places.
After lots of shoveling, lots of plowing, and with careful driving, we should be back on our feet soon.
We have some photos up on our Flickr page; lots more to come.
