PRAM, PRAM, THANK YOU MA'AM

Having display issues? Something funky happening that restarting or repairing permissions doesn’t fix? When all else fails, zap the PRAM. PRAM (parameter random access memory) stores certain system and device settings that the OS access on a regular basis. Unlike OS 9, monitor and network settings are not longer stored in the PRAM, so this won’t fix these issues. It will reset the following: the computer’s clock, startup speaker volume, sound volume, recent kernel panic information, and the DVD region code setting.

Here’s what to do:

1) Shut down the Mac
2) Turn it on while pressing Command-Option-P-R (the command key is the one to the left of the spacebar – often marked with an Apple.)
3) Let it chime three times, then release.
