Leopard Delayed Until October!

Well, this news is a bummer – today Apple announced that they will not release Leopard (OS 10.5) until this October. Previously Apple announced 10.5 would be released this Spring. So, instead of waiting for weeks, we now have to wait months to use the new operating system.

Apple is delaying Leopard to finish work on the iPhone:

iPhone contains the most sophisticated software ever shipped on a mobile device, and finishing it on time has not come without a price—we had to borrow some key software engineering and QA resources from our Mac OS® X team, and as a result we will not be able to release Leopard at our Worldwide Developers Conference in early June as planned.

Of course, Tiger is an excellent OS – many consider it to be the best in world. So, this news is not as bad as it could be. The iPhone will launch with all the love and attention is deserves – then, a few months later, Leopard will have the spotlight to itself (get it – like Spotlight built into Tiger?)
