Downloading YouTube Videos

Just occasionally there’s a really hilarious or crazy video on YouTube. I find myself watching it multiple times a day and rather then loading up the web page every time it would just be easier to open it in VLC or QuickTime.

The nice thing about Google Video is they will let you download the video and even format it for iPods and the Sony PSP. I am not sure why Google hasn’t incorporated that into YouTube yet…

Fortunately a few developers have put together an application that will pull the video from YouTube and then it will encode it into one of 4-5 formats. I tested it out and it’s quite simple to do!

The application is called TubeSock. You input the URL of the YouTube video and it will grab the video and then encode it into a format that you can watch in QuickTime or on AppleTV, a Treo, iPod, iPhone or even Flash.

TubeSock costs $15 but they do have a demo available. You can pickup a copy here!
