Updated MacBook Pros!

Today Apple announced an update to the MacBook Pro. While this new MacBook Pro does not feature a radically redesigned case, as some had hoped for / speculated, it does feature “the industry’s first 15-inch LED-backlit display.” The 17-inch MacBook Pro also features an optional 1920-by-1200 high-res display, providing over 30 percent more screen real estate than the standard 1680-by-1050 display.

All MacBook Pros utilize Intel’s “Santa Rosa” mobile processor. This is Intel’s latest Core 2 Duo processor running at speeds up to 2.4GHz with a 4MB L2 cache. Additionally, every MacBook Pro has an 800 MHz frontside bus, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, and runs the state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics card.

Apple claims this makes the new MacBook Pro one of the fastest notebooks on the planet, and that it will run pro apps like Final Cut Pro 6 and Logic Pro 7 more than 50 percent faster than the original MacBook Pro with Core Duo.

Other tech specs:

*2.2GHz Core 2 Duo. 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, 15” LED. GeForce 8600M GT 128MB, for $1999
