iPhones Are Really Coming To Vermont?

An article released in today’s Burlington Free Press announces that the sale of Unicel to Verizon has finally been approved. Verizon is in turn selling a number of Unicel locations in Vermont to AT&T. This means that in the coming months Vermonters should be able to easily obtain the iPhone. Until this announcement, Vermont iPhone users have had to buy their phones and contracts out of state.

As usual, the cell phone companies have kept pretty tight lipped about the entire deal, and when it will be final. They aren’t releasing much information, and AT&T is still not officially saying they are starting up services in Vermont, stating “It’s premature to comment on any deal…” “The process is still under way,” AT&T spokesman David Mancuso said, furthering, “until everything is done, nothing is done. He goes on, “if we do come into Vermont, we want to do it in the right way.”

Here at Small Dog Electronics we have been fielding many phone calls from excited Vermonters hoping to now walk into our stores and purchase a phone. At this time, we are still not selling the iPhone, but it could be a possibility for the future as more information is released from the service providers. We do offer a large selection of iPhone accessories, including items for the newest 3G model. We will be tracking this story as more information becomes available!

And for our local readers, Small Dog’s own David Boyd is featured in today’s article in the Burlington Free Press about the latest iPhone news… Check it out!

  • Google + Nest = Nest+?

You may have heard that yesterday, Google acquired “*Nest,*”:https://nest.com the company most known for its smarter, simpler thermostat design. Reactions to the sale have been largely negative, at least according to “*fans of Nest on Facebook.*”:https://www.facebook.com/nest/posts/10152167824360681 What would this mean for your privacy? For device support (especially non-Google devices such as iPhone)? ARE WE ALL GOING TO BE WATCHED IN OUR HOMES?

I’ve been intrigued by Nest’s thermostat design since it was developed by Nest Labs in 2011, and still believe that it has set a standard for innovation and what it means to have a “connected home” — a term that has proven to be highly sought after in the past few years. I mean, you can leave the over-the-top “smart” tech products at CES (except for the WeMo-enabled “*Belkin Crock-Pot*”:http://www.macrumors.com/2014/01/07/belkin-slow-cooker/ … I think I’d love that guy), but Nest makes a lot of sense for the average home.

Recently, Nest Labs introduced a smarter “*smoke and carbon monoxide detector,*”:https://nest.com/smoke-co-alarm/life-with-nest-protect/ taking on another mundane household staple that they determined significant improvement (for the annoyance factor alone). That brings the total number of products to two. Two. For which Google paid 3.2 billion! Obviously, they were viewed as game-changers.

So, what do you think Google plans to do with Nest? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
