The Great MacBook Inspection Project

I wrote last week about our shipment of dozens of used MacBooks. Since then, most have sold, so if you’d like one, now is the time! They are available here: www.smalldog.com/product/72715

I’ve been handling most of the inspection, cleaning, and repair of these machines with our new intern, Grayson Eckroth. It’s been amazing to see them, nearly three years old, in such great condition. It’s a testament to the durability and reliability of Apple’s machines. Out of fifty units, only six have required repair for me to sign off and put them on the price list. Of these, three needed top cases for minor cracking or trackpad button issues, two needed new screens for inadequate brightness, and another needed a hard drive to resolve slowness issues.

The unibody-style MacBooks and MacBook Pros are selling quickly, and just as expected they haven’t been coming back for repair all that much. Apple challenges its service providers to pass 90% customer satisfaction for repairs, and we push ourselves even further. The best way to increase overall satisfaction is to make products that don’t need service in the first place, and surely Apple’s efforts in this regard will help further boost market share and satisfaction.
