  • A Special Valentine's Day iMix

Valentine’s Day seems to conjure up very strong emotions–you either love it or hate it. Either way, you’ll need a soundtrack.

We’ve channeled our emotional sides to bring you some iTunes iMixes of love and loathing (“interestingly enough, so did NPR, even naming their playlist similarly!”:http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=100411956).

If you’d like to check out what Small Dog employees need to get them going, “click here to view our entire playlist.”:http://www.smalldog.com/imix The link to purchase our iMix will be featured there shortly!

*How to Make Your Own iMix*

An iMix is a playlist from your iTunes library that is published for all to view and purchase through the iTunes Store. To make your own, follow these steps:

    * Create a playlist of your favorite songs in iTunes
    * Click “Store” from the Menu Bar and select “Create an iMix”
    * Name the playlist, provide a description and select Publish

Apple will notify you when your iMix has been published!

  • What's Your Phobia?

Do you have __Peladophobia,__ __Pediophobia__ or __Peniaphobia__? Well, if you’re not afraid of bald people, dogs or poverty (irrationally, people), you probably don’t!

Friday the 13th always makes us think of our fears, so here it goes:

    *Moses*
“Fear of the Undead, (__Kinemortophobia__) and/or fear of decaying matter (__Seplophobia__), coupled with a fear of nuclear weapons (__Nucleomituphobia__)… so basically I’m afraid we will be attacked by mutant zombies who are made immortal by nuclear radiation, but then their matter slowly decays so that we are the only ones left on earth!”

    *Kerry*
“Fear of clowns (__Coulrophobia__) and storm drains… I blame Stephen King and Pennywise.”

    *Kelli*
“Fear of clowns (__see above__) and a fear of masks (__Prosopeiophobia__). And I do have a slight fear of Ceramic Clown Masks… like the Pierrot and Harlequin clown masks that were so popular for people to hang on their walls in the ’80s…”

    *Damian*
“Clown paintings! Especially velvet clown paintings!” (may be referred to as __ Anatidaephobia__)

    *Rob*
“Fear of Ventriloquist Dummies (__Automatonophobia__) and a fear that somewhere a Duck is watching you (__Anataiadaiaphobia__).”

    *Davin*
“Fear that your roommate’s chinchilla will suck out your soul while you sleep. (__Hypochinclacleophobia__)”

    *Carl*
“Mild fear of larger bodies of very deep, very dark water (__Hydrophobia__). There are Things down there and They will get you! Also, mild anxiety of crowded public places (__Agoraphobia__). Also, not quite __Xenophobia__ (which i think is limited to aliens meaning foreigners), but “these guys”:http://blog.smalldog.com/images/996.jpg definitely make me uncomfortable. If i have to move the book Communion at home, I have to cover up the cover so I don’t see it.”

    *Katie*
    “Antiques.”

    *Liam*
    “Revolving doors.”

    *Joyce*
“Just a fear that a bunch of little things will go wrong. Never anything HUGE, just stupid little things.”

    *David*
“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself…” –FDR

    *Art*
“Constant fear that people’s beverages are going to spill. I have a tendency to move people’s beverages away from the edges of tables/desks, etc. as a result.”

    Interesting Tidbit:
__Taphophobia,__ fear of being buried alive
It’s been written that write Hans Christian Anderson was afraid of being buried alive and would leave a not by his bed when he was sleeping that read __”I am only apparently dead.”__

  • Sudoku Winner!

A big thank you to everyone who entered our contest with their completed Sudoku puzzle from last week! It was a lot of fun to see all the answers, and an overwhelming number of you got the phrase correct.

So what was the correct answer, you ask? Well, that’s an interesting one–we initially had just one correct unscrambled phrase, but soon realized that there were actually TWO solutions to the puzzle. To wit:

*Important Event:* Saturday, February 7 was Don’s 60th birthday!

    *Correct Answers:*
    MAYER IS 60
    I’M 60 YEARS

Since we didn’t say that you __couldn’t__ use an apostrophe (oooh, that would have been evil), we entered all of you who had either answer correct into the contest drawing.

Congratulations to Fred L. who has won a set of Chill Pill mobile speakers and USB adapter! Thanks to everyone for playing!

P.S. We thought it was also fitting to announce the winner today–Hapy’s birthday!

  • From the Archives: Multi-Touch Mail Trick

__Originally featured Friday, June 13th, 2008__

The MacBook Air and newest MacBook Pros include Multi-Touch-capable trackpads that let you rotate, resize, and gesture your way through many common tasks. For instance, you can increase and decrease font size in Safari by making a pinching gesture with two fingers on the trackpad.

You can use three fingers swiped left or right to go forward or back in your browser history. I very recently discovered that the three-finger trick works in Mail on my MacBook Air: three fingers to the left gets you to the previous message, and three fingers swiped to the right gets you to the next message. Pretty cool!
