Ride to Americade

Yesterday, Don, Grace and I played hooky and rode our motorcycles over to the Americade motorcycle rally in Lake George New York. Americade is known as the worlds largest touring rally. This upstate NY event was originally founded as a Honda gathering and has now come to embrace all brands of motorcycles.

Americade is a great place to go if you are looking to equip your motorcycle with everything that is needed to go on a cross country trip; there hundreds of vendors were in attendance. The three of us were surprised to see how many trikes and pull behind trailers were on display and riding around Lake George. We saw even one attendee who had added so many accessories to his bike that he needed to have a set of fancy training wheels installed onto his ride. The food was great and I had the opportunity to eat some lightly battered and deep fried alligator which was both tender and delicious.

On the way home, Don mentioned that he’d like to stop by and check out the Forest Lake Camp which is owned by our own Geoff Blanck. Geoff and his family were instrumental in bringing new life to this youth camp which was originally founded way back in 1926.

I personally attended several excellent summer camps growing up and was both surprised and impressed to find out about the multitude of activities available at Forest Lake Camp. I joked to Geoff that I had finally figured out what activity was missing—Fencing. Geoff was quick to point out that the camp does offer Fencing and has a world class fencer and instructor on staff. If your kids are looking for something cool to do this summer they need to check out Forest Lake Camp!
