Jerome York, member of Apple’s Board of Directors and often described as a “turnaround master,” has died at 71.

Apple memorialized him on their website today, saying that he “courageously joined Apple’s Board of Directors in 1997, when many doubted the company’s future.”

Among other career milestones, he was the former CFO of IBM and Chrysler.
