If you’re easily sidetracked, especially at work, feel free to stop reading here. The following list contains some of the most addictive games that we’ve been able to uncover in the App Store’s massive library. Though the list contains a few mainstays, it is also peppered with a couple of indie games which have flown under the radar. The best thing about the majority of these titles is that they are all available for under $5, yet offer almost limitless replay value. Whether you’ve got a long business trip ahead of you, or you’re just looking to throw off you sleep schedule, give these addictive apps a try!
10. Super Mega Worm:
One of the more violent games on the list also happens to be the most ridiculous. Super Mega Worm features retro inspired gameplay that harkens back to the 8 and 16 bit glory days. Featuring an absurd storyline meshed with tight and addictive gameplay, this app deserves a spot on the list based on premise alone. $0.99
9. Mega Jump:
What some have written off as a Doodle Jump clone is actually a great game of its own. Though it does feature a similar play mechanic, Mega Jump’s graphics are more detailed and its gameplay is deeper. Players are given a range of characters to choose from, and jump their way through colorful power-up laden stages. Free
8. Mini Gore:
This addictive shooter features some of the most inspired 3D graphics in the App Store. Players fend of enemies with a variety of different weapons in lush, well animated environments. The protagonist John Gore is deceivingly cute, but packs a serious punch. The play style of this game is oriented around short sessions, so its perfect if you’ve got five minutes to kill. $0.99
7. Ramp Champ:
The Iconfactory’s take on skee-ball is a gorgeous and well designed app. The game offers a variety of different stages which all feature 3 goals of varying difficulty. Depending on the number of points scored per round, players receive a certain number of tickets. Tickets can be redeemed for a range of different in-game prizes. It’s just like the arcade! Except without that creepy guy emptying the quarters out of the machines. $1.99
6. Paper Toss:
Perhaps the game with the simplest concept on the list, Paper Toss is among the most addictive. If you’ve ever tried to make a basket in the office trash bin then you already know what I’m talking about. Though this game does bear some endorsements, the limited ads are worth it for the price! Free
5. Doodle Jump:
This game pioneered the “jumping” genre on iOS. Among the first of its kind, Doodle Jump certainly has the most unique art direction. Though the concept it simple, the never ending quest to jump your alien avatar higher and higher seems to never get old. $0.99
4. Flight Control:
A tried yet true App Store classic, this game dominated sales charts around the store’s inception. With the developer consistently adding new features, this already high quality app gets better and better. Most recently updated with Retina Display and GameCenter support, Flight Control is a blast to play on the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th generation. $0.99
3. Tilt to Live:
Tilt to Live is a high quality game which unfortunately never garnered the attention it deserved. Though the game has a dedicated community of followers, it never climbed the App Store sales charts in the ways lesser caliber games have. Though a bit pricer than some of the other titles on the list. Tilt to Live is sure to provide hours of entertainment. $2.99
2. Robot Unicorn Attack:
Based on the title alone, R.U.A. ranks on the same level as Super Mega Worm in terms of absurdity. The concept behind this game follows in a similar vein. Though it can take some practice initially, once you’ve mastered it this game is nearly impossible to put down. Arguably the best feature of this game is the incessantly cheesy background music which loops while you play. Love it or hate it, there is no denying this is one of the most addictive games out there. $0.99
1. The Impossible Game:
I’ve had a friend actually shatter his iPhone screen due to the frustration this game has caused. Simply put, this is the most addictive game in the app store. Take whatever precautions you need–even if it means wrapping that iPhone in bubble wrap–but don’t say we didn’t warn you! Toted as “The world’s hardest game,” this app will have you coming back for more and more punishment as you desperately attempt to improve your high score. $0.99
Reader Favorite: Angry Birds:
By popular demand, Clickgamer.com’s Angry Birds grabs a spot at the top of the list. Several of our readers considered this the most addictive game on the App Store. It would seem a few others share their opinion as the game has been riding the top of the charts since its release earlier this year. Players use a flock of Angry Birds to go up against enemy Pigs and their fortified strongholds. An addictive blend of strategy, skill, and luck, Angry Birds is a must have. $0.99
