PBS Releases iPhone App

PBS yesterday released an iPhone specific version of their popular iPad app which debuted last Fall. This well designed app is perfect for PBS fans of all ages, and brings a wealth of great content to the iPhone. According to TUAW, the app enables viewers to watch clips, and full length episodes of many popular programs.

Nova, Austin City Limits, and Antiques Roadshow are but a few of the great shows available through the app. In addition to streaming clips and episodes, the app allows users to browse their local PBS station’s program schedule based on location. If you see an upcoming episode that spikes your interest, you can easily set a reminder through the app. For instance, I discovered that both Sonic Youth and The Black Keys are being featured on an upcoming episode of Austin City Limits. Using the app, I pulled up my local PBS station, VPT HD, and set a reminder for when the show airs on the 22nd. If you’re looking for some entertainment this weekend–or in general–you simply can’t beat the quality programming available through the network. Though both the app and its content are entirely free, the app includes a donation feature if you’d like to support your local station directly.
