USB Audio Recording with a Blue Yeti?

“Wasteland? I think you mean Wonderland!”
(from the yeti in Monsters, Inc – Disney/Pixar)

The Yeti by Blue Microphones is one of the most advanced USB recording devices available for musicians and audiophiles alike. Many people have been skeptical about at-home audio recording and until this point, USB microphones have been a technology to be feared and avoided. However, the Yeti gives you a sound recording that is anything but abominable.

The device itself has some great features which make pro-quality audio recording extremely user-friendly. The Yeti has a gain knob right on the device to control the amplitude of your sound without having to switch through control panel preferences in audio applications. Its headphone port with volume control and mute button allow for zero-latency, so in multi-track recording there is no delay through your audio application.

Another great aspect of this microphone includes the three condenser diaphragms. The diaphragm capsules give your recorded sound amazing clarity and the available pickup configurations give your sound warmth, body, and space. Whether you want to record solos, duos, trios, etc… the Yeti’s pickup pattern versatility makes it easy. The knob on the microphone allows you to switch easily between four polar patterns including cardiod, omnidirectional, stereo, and figure eight.

What was previously a combination of expensive equipment and multiple cables has been condensed into a microphone with a usb connection. Blue microphones did a fantastic job making pro-level sound affordable and easy for any musician.
