World of Goo Comes to iPhone

2D Boy—publisher of the wildly successful World of Goo—gave iOS gamers a surprise this morning with the release of its popular puzzle title for iPhone and iPod touch. World of Goo originated as a game for Mac/PC and eventually made its way to home consoles such as the Wii. The game was ported to iOS earlier this year and released as an iPad exclusive. Today, to the dismay of bosses everywhere, the addictive game launched for Apple’s other iOS devices for the low introductory price of $0.99. While typical gameplay sessions last longer, and are more involved than the average hit of Angry Birds, World of Goo is just as addictive.

The game has collected numerous accolades since its release including multiple ‘Game of the Year’ awards and ‘Best Artistic Design.’ From the moment you launch the app you will understand why. Players take control of the inhabitants of World of Goo—aptly named Goo Balls. These slimy creatures seek to explore their world, and you are in charge of dragging and dropping them together to create goo based structures, bridges, zeppelins and more. Although the game—in the simplest sense—is a “point A to point B” puzzler, the solutions are not always obvious. Players must harness the game’s powerful physics engine to successfully complete level objectives.

World of Goo is available in two versions. The $0.99 version is iPhone/iPod touch only while the $4.99 iPad HD version has been converted to a universal app making it compatible with iPad/iPhone and iPod touch. If own an iPad in addition to another iOS device, be sure to snag the HD version for a couple bucks more—it’s worth it!
