Apple Announces iWork for iPhone & iPod touch

Apple today released universal versions of its previously OS X and iPad exclusive productivity apps. Pages, Numbers and Keynote—the three apps comprising the iWork suite—were redesigned and ported to iOS as iPad exclusives last year. Utilizing the smaller yet just as intuitive multi-touch displays found on Apple’s most portable iOS devices, all three apps have been re-released today as universal iOS apps—making them compatible on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The apps retain their previous price points of $9.99 each, and come as free updates to iPad users who have already purchased them.

The miniature versions of the apps borrow extensively from their Mac and iPad counterparts. Bringing the ability to import and export documents from iWork for Mac and Microsoft Office to iPhone and iPod touch, full AirPrint support is also included. In addition to universal app support, today’s update brings the following new features to each app:

Pages

  • New document manager to easily sort your documents and organize them into folders
  • Ability to change font style and size directly from the ruler when editing text
  • Smart Zoom for viewing and editing data

Numbers

  • New document manager to easily sort your documents and organize them into folders
  • Improved usability including Smart Zoom for viewing and editing data

Keynote

  • Keynote Remote app (sold separately on the App Store) to control your presentation from another iPhone or iPod touch
  • New document manager to easily sort your documents and organize them into folders

The newly updated iOS apps are currently available in the iTunes App Store and are compatible with the following devices:

  • iPad
  • iPad 2
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4
  • iPod touch (3rd & 4th generation)
