Newly Released Apple Updates

In addition to the iOS 5.0.1 update for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, Apple has released several updates for other products. Here are the details:

MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.5

According to Apple, “This update resolves an issue where a MacBook Pro being used with a power adapter may unexpectedly shut down under heavy workload if the battery charge level is near empty.”

The update is available to MacBook Pro users via Software Update or via Apple’s Support site. Apple notes that your MacBook Pro’s fans will run at full speed while the update is taking place but will resume normal speed upon completion of the update.

Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 3.9

This update brings RAW image compatibility for a number of cameras in Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11:

Aperture 3 and iPhoto ’11 users can access the update through Software Update or download directly from Apple’s Support site.

AirPort Base Station and Time Capsule Firmware Update 7.6

This update is for all 02.11n AirPort Express, 802.11n AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule models and, according to Apple, includes fixes for the following:

  • An issue with performance on overlapping wireless networks
  • An issue with AirPlay audio streaming
  • An issue with configuring multiple entries for DNS servers

Information about installing the firmware update and further details can be found on Apple’s Support site. Apple recommends that users install AirPort Utility 5.5.3 before updating to Firmware version 7.6.
