Small Dog's Holiday Gift Giving Guide

This is the final installation of the 2011 gift giving guide in K&B. We’ll continue to feature gift ideas from Small Dog staff members on our blog through next week. Stop by often to see what we think would make great gifts this year!

Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson (Hard Cover): “Nothing will ever replace the paper book! (Ok, the iPad has pretty much replaced the paper book.)” —Michael Duplessis

Hammerhead Stylus for iPad/iPhone/iPod touch: “Okay, at first I was thinking, ‘Why do I need a stylus?’ I mean, I haven’t used one since my Palm V back in the early 2000s! But after using this stylus I am hooked, especially on the iPad for taking meeting notes.” —Dana Flint

Urbanears Plattan Headphones in Aubergine: “We used these in one of our recent TV spots, and once I saw them—I wanted a pair!” —Jan Knutsen

Hammerhead Microfiber Cleaning Cloths 3-Pack: “These microfiber cloths are an affordable gift suitable for pretty much everyone. I use them to clean not only my computer screen but also my glasses and even my bathroom mirror (seriously). Toss these in a stocking or add to a gift bag of computer accessories.” —Stephanie Reich

The Joker Mimobot Flash Drive: “Store your data in style with these fun flash drives. My personal favorite is the Joker, but they come in a huge variety of styles. They make the perfect stocking stuffer.” —BJ Jeralds

3M MPro150 Portable Projector 640 × 480 – 15 Lumens: “Great portable projector for watching movies from your iPhone or iPad on the go or giving a presentation to a small group.” —Rob Amon

iDevices iGrill Remote Grilling & Cooking Thermometer in White: “If you like to barbeque, smoke or roast, you need this.” —Hapy Mayer

Leister Reunion or Adobe Photoshop Elements: “I definitely know some people who would love these…I have great memories of opening and playing with fun new software with my family!” —Kali Hilke

  • MAC TREAT #173: Find Your iTunes Username

iTunes has been slowly taking over the world for the better part of a decade now, so chances are, you’re using that to play, buy or rent your digital content.

For those who use iTunes less frequently, though, either because you don’t often use iTunes for your music or movies or because you have a household full of separate iTunes user accounts, you may have found yourself wondering what your username is.

This can be frustrating if you have content on your machine that you know you’ve purchased but want to log in again. (If you don’t own an iPod or haven’t purchased anything from iTunes before, it’s possible that you haven’t yet created an account.)

To find your account information (given that you’ve initially created one and downloaded at least one item within the account), “*MacTrast*”:http://www.mactrast.com/2011/12/mac-tip-i-forgot-my-itunes-username/ has a great tip to find what you’re looking for.

Once you’ve opened iTunes, go to a file that you know has been downloaded or purchased through iTunes. Click *Command + I* or go to *File > Get Info* to grab the file’s information.

A summary window will pop up, and you’ll see your Account Name highlighted there. You may request a new password if you’ve forgotten it (this assumes you still have access to the original email address on the account), or answer the original “secret questions” associated with the account.

There’s lot of good content on iTunes this holiday season, from music, to movies to apps, so definitely check it out!

  • _Dear Friends,_

It’s Jan writing for Don this week while he’s out of town. We’re still waiting for our first big snowfall here in the Valley, but it’s probably a good thing the ground is clear since solar trackers are being installed in the field alongside our warehouse. We broke ground this past Monday, and if the weather holds, we should be up and running within a few days.

This installation will allow us to generate all the power for our South Burlington store and some for our Waitsfield headquarters as well. We are all extremely excited about this new chapter in our continued effort to be as energy efficient as possible while saving our natural resources.

With the holiday season in full swing, we’re thankful that our stores have been filled with customers and that our folks taking phone orders have been working with so many of you. Just a reminder that if you want those Small Dog gifts to arrive by the 25th, make sure to consult our holiday shipping schedule at “*Smalldog.com/shipping.*”:http://www.smalldog.com/shipping

And, for you last minute shoppers, we’ve made it easy for you by offering some terrific gift ideas at “*Smalldog.com/holiday,*”:http://www.smalldog.com/holiday so be sure to check them out. We also have previous-generation MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models that can save you money when getting that Mac lover on your list a brand-new notebook–the best of both worlds!

In the true spirit of the holidays, I would like to mention that every time you place an order with us online, you have the opportunity to make a donation to a featured charity by adding it your cart. Small Dog matches individual donations up to $200. For more information on charitable giving and our pet charities, please visit “*Smalldog.com/charity.*”:http://www.smalldog.com/charity
