SPECIAL: iMac + AppleCare + Microsoft Office

Do you remember when computer monitors were square and the text was all green and you could only work on one page of one document at a time? Maybe this is still your home computer set-up (if so, please send a picture!).

With the iMac, whether it is a 21.5” or 27” screen, you can now have two full pages of text on the screen side-by-side. With the high-speed Intel processors and 4GB of RAM standard, you can keep all the programs you need open at once for fast access. Get this bundle to stay productive and save $50!

  • Does It Smell Like It?

    While we normally try to avoid getting involved in the many patent disputes between Apple and what seems like every other tech company in the world, a judge’s statement in a recent case caught the attention of the Small Dog crew.

    Judge Thomas Pender of the International Trade Commission has said that his decision as to whether Samsung has violated Apple’s patents will hinge on the following conditions: “Does it look like it, feel like it, smell like it?”

    This is of course a reference to Cheech and Chong’s classic routine in which they are trying to determine the nature of a…um…let’s call it “mysterious pile” that they have come upon. After looking at it, feeling it, smelling it, and (this is hard to even write) tasting it, they determine that it is in fact what they thought it was and note that they are glad they didn’t step in it.

    Here at Small Dog HQ we generally just use the first criteria when determining where to step when we walk around the grounds, but I can appreciate a thorough scientific investigation.

  • _Dear Readers,_

    Don’s off on a short trip to Lake George, NY, today with our co-worker Tony “Puddin'” Amenta. Tony is our new Sales Manager for Hammerhead and Chill Pill Audio products. We started calling him “Puddin'” when we found out that it was his nickname in grade school. He was the kid in the cafeteria who always ate the other kids’ pudding if they couldn’t finish it. Well, give us a nickname and we run with it.

    Here’s a list of other popular nicknames around the dog pound:

    Dawn = Etta
    Artie = Spreader (for being the guy to bring cow manure and spread on Don’s garden)
    Hapy = Haploid, Tinky Winky, Tiny, Biff
    Rob = Jester
    Don = DP (Donnie Pop)
    Kerry = Carol
    Jaime = J Rico
    Jon – The Farmer
    Jason W = Wu man
    Jamie Mason (our original intern) = Chimpy Nuts
    Grace = Grace
    Nick = Little Nicky

    Since I’m filling in for Don today, I made a joke before writing this that I was just going to use the first piece of spam that came into my inbox, so here’s what might have been:

    “My Dear beloved Friend, Greetings in the name of God, Please let this not sound strange to you for my only surviving lawyer who would have done this died.”

    You just can’t make stuff like that up! Spam can be so much fun! Neil Forsyth has written “*several books*”:http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/stat?id=19XpSnZWhPI&offerid=146261&type=3&subid=0&tmpid=1826&RD_PARM1=http://itunes.apple.com/us/book/why-me/id511309931?mt=11%26uo%3D6%26partnerId%3D30 about his hilarious email responses to spam. We are deep into June and that means our eWaste Recycling Events are right around the corner. Come say “Hi” and drop your old electronics off to be safely recycled. On June 16th, we will be at the Mall of NH (and will be giving away two NASCAR tickets), and on June 30th, we will be at Rutland High School in Rutland, Vermont.

  • MAC TREAT #181: Merge Your Data

    In Lion, Finder allows you to do what you’ve never been able to do before. No, not leap tall buildings in a single bound. You can now merge the contents of two folders of the same name without having to sacrifice/overwrite one.

    In previous versions of the OS, your options were either Stop or Replace (or similar, depending on your version). In Lion, you’ll now see a third option in the popup window, Keep Both, and a list of unique files it finds when comparing the two.

    *Important:* This will only work if you use Copy (Command-C) and Paste (Command-V) to merge the folders. I’m not sure why it works this way, but take heed, as the drag ‘n’ drop method will only show the Stop and Replace options of OS versions past…
