One of the biggest changes at Small Dog since I left in 2006 is how large the company has become. It takes a LOT of people to fill all of the open retail hours. It has been a struggle for me just to get to know the folks in Waitsfield, let alone Manchester and South Burlington. I decided if I’m having trouble getting to know the staff, our faithful customers and readers must be simply overwhelmed so off and on, I’ll introduce you all to the people who make up Small Dog Electronics.
I decided to start with our younger Small Dog employees. There was a time when Hapy and Art were the young guns but now that they are both over 40 and hobbling onto the softball field, they no longer qualify. We now have quite a few employees who are in their very first job, fresh out of college. What I love most about having these “new workers” is that we have the opportunity to mold them as employees. Whether they stay with us for years or move on to other things, we can share our philosophy with them and perhaps influence how they will mature as adults.

Scott has probably the best sense of humor in the company which he expresses in his iChat statuses, which always makes me smile. Scott’s interest in computers started in high school in Western Mass when he started programming calculators. This is probably why he gets along with Morgan so well! Scott plays a musical instrument, the piano, which he’s been playing for 12 years. While teaching technology, I noticed that kids who play a musical instrument in their younger years seem to gravitate towards computers so this is always a question that I ask when I’m getting to know someone.
I asked Scott if he had a dream car and he answered with “Yes, the 1965 Aston Martin DB5”. You may recognize this as the car that was used in the early Bond films. The furthest away that Scott has travelled is Prince Edward Island, which is 673 miles away from Small Dog. I have never been to PEI but it is one destination that I would love to see. I remember looking at a map of the Bay of Fundy and finding out that the largest whirlpool on Earth was there; I have been wanting to go there ever since!
The image that I attached is how just about everyone will see Scott when visiting the IT office. I seldom see his face, but I would instantly recognize him from behind!
So Scott, thank you for coming to work each day with your happy outlook on life AND for wearing a bow tie every once in a while. You are making a lot of us smile.
