Oh Dear, Mom Needs Help!

I was tasked with replacing my mother’s keyboard for her after she spilled a glass of wine on the one she had been using. Being the Apple fan that I am, without hesitation, I sent her a new Apple Keyboard with the numeric keypad.

After using it for about a week, my mother called again — she was not a huge fan of the new flush key design of the Apple keyboard (a feature I actually love). She found that she was often hitting multiple keys instead of just one and she was actually a little annoyed about how quiet the new keyboard was.

We have come a long way from the clickity-clack of the old typewriter, and in my mom’s eyes, a bit too far. I started looking at different keyboards and trying to figure out which one would really fit her best. I ultimately decided to get her a Matias Tactile Pro keyboard. This keyboard is very similar to the original Apple Keyboard that came with my first eMac.

The keys are easily distinguishable and the entire keyboard is very sturdy. While the click of the keys is not nearly as loud as a manual typewriter, you definitely know when each key is hit. There are also three non-powered USB ports located directly on the keyboard, which are nice for peripherals and the flash drives she uses to swap photographs with my aunts and uncles.

Matias is a great company that stands behind their products and honors their warranties, which is especially important when spending $139.99 on a keyboard. Mom is extremely happy with the keyboard (the most important thing), and if all goes well, it should last her quite a long time. She has also agreed to keep the glasses of wine on a side table next to the computer desk in the future — a good tip for everyone!
