Many people have asked me about the value of Applecare+. I have always told people that I think it’s worth the extra expense. I have it on each of my iOS devices because for me I like having the accidental coverage.
What is Applecare+? Applecare+ is an extended warranty for iOS devices that does at its core 3 very important things:
It extends the 1 year hardware warranty to 2 years of hardware warranty. This will cover manufacture defects like battery failure or a faulty touch screen.
It extends the 90 day Apple phone support to 2 years of phone support. The phone support that Apple provides is top knock. The phone support is great when you need someone to talk you through an iOS upgrade or a problem with Apple applications such as Photos or pages. Apple phone support once you are outside the 90 days cost $29.99 per call.
To me the biggest value is the the accidental damage coverage. Let’s be honest accidents happen and a broken iOS device is super sad. With Applecare+ you pay the deductible and the unit is replaced. You get up to two incidents of accidental coverage over the two years. WIthout Applecare+ the cost of replacing a broken unit is easily four to five times the deposit.
How much is Applecare+?
For the iPhones Applecare+ is $99.99 and the accidental deductible is $79.99 for iPhone 6 or earlier models, $99.99 for iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus.
The iPad line Applecare+ is $99.99 and the accidental deductible is $49.99
Applecare+ iPod Touch is $59.99 and the accidental deductible is $29.99
When can you get it?
You have 60 days from the date of purchase of your iOS device to buy Applecare+. The easiest thing to do is buy it at the same time as your device. If you decided later on to buy Applecare+ all you need to do is bring your proof of purchase and your device into one of our stores. The device would need to pass a visual inspection by one of our technicians.
