Dear Friends,
That Irma was a real witch! The Keys got a direct hit about 20 miles north of Key West and the devastation is huge. Then she marched up the rest of the state and created havoc (but I know you have been watching uninterrupted coverage of that.) Key West dodged a serious bullet. While there is some wind damage, the flooding from storm surge was minimal. All of my employees have checked in safe and the store, which sits on the highest part of the island, is fine too. My house seems to be okay too, with no flooding and a little chainsaw work needed for a couple trees. Thanks to NOAA satellite imagery for the photos of Key West!
The Keys are without electricity, water, cell service or sewers. They are rapidly working on restoring these and when the power is back on, Tommy says he will take the plywood down and open up the store. They are not letting anyone into the Keys now; it’s tough for residents, but it makes sense to hold off until things like grocery stores, water and power are restored so the humanitarian efforts are not further hampered. It was surreal to see a Chinook helicopter landing in the Sears parking lot to hand out water and meals just a few blocks from my house.
Out best wishes go out to everyone impacted by these two monster hurricanes, not only in Florida and Texas but also to the other islands in the Caribbean that have been wiped out by these storms.
Tuesday saw the first new product introductions at the Steve Jobs Theater; it was a spectacular display of new technology. I am excited about the new products and can’t wait to get my hands on them!
