Dear Friends,
We are mostly settled back in Key West with mostly vegetative damage from Irma. As we were driving down to Key West, though, the devastation just 10 miles north was astounding with mountains of debris still lining the road and so many homes, cars and boats wiped out. A lot of work left to recover. On the other hand, Key West seems to be mostly back to normal.
My dogs were great travelers on the way down, even when we stopped in Hoboken for the night. I had planned to go see an old friend in the city but that horrific terrorist attack was right in his neighborhood and he couldn’t get out because the streets were all closed. Jezebel grew up here as a pup so she was glad to be home and immediately pulled out all her toys that we left here. Then she went outside and chased an iguana into our pool which Grace and I had to spend some time retrieving. They are such pests.
Getting my home network and automation gear running again was fun and aside from replacing a few batteries I was up and operating. The irrigation system will take more effort as there are some broken pipes and fixtures from the hurricane. My solar panels for the pool heater also got ruined when a tree dropped on them so I will have some roof work to do once I find some new panels.
