Dear Tech Tails Readers,
Did you know that we have been sending Tech Tails since 1999? I have been with Small Dog since 2003 and it has become a bit of a joke that you know something is old at Small Dog when it’s been around longer than I have! Our early issues of Tech Tails covered everything from taking apart your computer’s display to backing up your computer. Yep, we’ve been talking about data back up for a long time and, still, it’s an important topic today. Tech Tails has always been about providing a different perspective, a publication that gives a deep dive inside your computer. With Tech Tails we were looking to show our customers a little bit more about just what happens behind the scenes of your computer because what’s inside is pretty incredible!
Over the years we have instructed and informed our readers on how to do all kinds of things with their Macs, from hardware to software. We have provided tips to customers on hardware repairs from Ti-Books to iMacs. I recall from my days working in the warehouse how many processor upgrades and PCI cards we’d sell in a month for G4 towers, and, in my early days of retail, we’d sell hard drive upgrades to iBook users. iBook users frequently needed hard drive upgrades as the popularity of iTunes grew along with their music selection. I am sure many of our readers remember performing upgrades to their own Macs to get just a bit more time with them before they made the plunge to an upgraded machine. Maybe even something written in Tech Tails helped them out!
We have genuinely enjoyed providing our readers with a variety of information through Tech Tails. In the past couple of years, we’ve found it harder to provide the kind of publication our readers have been accustomed to. With evolution and advancement comes unexpected hurdles. It is amazing what Apple has accomplished with computers in the past 19 years or so we’ve been publishing this newsletter. With this advancement, there have been dramatic changes in how these machines are repaired and upgraded.
As the computers have evolved we’ve realized it’s time to evolve as well. In this case, it means that we have made the decision to discontinue this publication. We feel this publication was always about providing a more technical and in-depth view of the computers we work with every day. Our goal was to share information on how to upgrade your device, how to convert your files, how to prepare for a new operating system and more. Much of this information is often covered in Kibbles & Bytes now, and we found we were often providing cross information between the two newsletters.
We want to thank all of our loyal readers for following Tech Tails, but don’t despair. We will be providing much of the same content that you saw in Tech Tails in Kibbles & Bytes and more. We will have one newsletter that is your source for all things Apple! If you are not already signed up for Kibbles & Bytes you can sign up here and once you verify your e-mail address you will get an email to sign up for Kibbles & Bytes.
Thank you for reading,
Emily
