Mac Treat #31: Publish Your Website with iWeb on Multiple Computers

Let’s face it: iWeb is a lot of fun, and so easy to use, but it lacks some features. But this is not the article that goes over every single feature we’d like to see added to iWeb. No, this article is for the person who appreciates iWeb’s simplicity, but wants to make it do more—specifically on more than one computer.

I love using iWeb. It does most things I need it to do, and well. Best of all, it looks great, with as little or as much effort as you want to put into it. That said, I often find myself wanting to edit and/or publish my sites on different computers. There’s definitely a way—follow these steps if you’ve ever wondered how to do it yourself:

1) Find your Domain file (located in: Users/(your username)/Library/Application Support/iWeb)
2) Copy Domain file
3) Paste into other computer location (Users/(other username)/Library/Application Support/iWeb)
NOTE: Delete the existing Domain file if there is one (just make sure you don’t want it first) before you paste the current one in.

The next time you go to open iWeb on the computer of your choice, your sites will be there exactly as you last saved them, and you’ll be able to publish from there. Repeat the steps as necessary. (One day, maybe Apple will allow synchronization of iWeb files…)

Earlier this week, Lifehacker.com posted a great article titled How to Stay Safe on Public Wi-Fi Networks. The article covers setting up and automating all the right settings on Mac and Windows.

While we generally prefer to suggest unique Mac Treats, in this case, the article is so good that we’re simply going to refer you to their site. There’s not much for me to add here, except to remind everyone that even though Macs are more secure and far less prone to viruses, trojans, and unauthorized access, we should never be complacent with computer security.

You can read the article by clicking here. I recommend bookmarking it and passing it on to all your friends!
