Unboxing an Apple //c – Factory Sealed 20 Years Ago!

I’ve never completely understood the interest in “unboxing photos.” These are photos of new products, especially Apple products, being opened (unboxed) and posted to the internet. You can find these by searching for “unboxing” on Flickr or Google.

The best unboxing photos I’ve ever seen feature a brand new Apple //c . It was factory sealed on May 5th, 1988, and only opened last month. The owner purchased it on eBay, and debated opening it at all. However, because his “very first computer was an Apple //c,” he realized he couldn’t see “wanting to part with this computer, ever” so he decided to open it up.

The box is a time capsule. The photos and graphic design in the package and manuals seem like they’re from another planet, never mind another century. Ah, the late Eighties. Also, technical
features Apple touted are quaint by today’s standards (Boldface AND Underlined Text!)

Did it work after 20 years of storage? Did the floppy disks degrade beyond usability? View the photoset by clicking here.
