iPhone in Vermont in January: It's Official!

Finally! Regarding bringing the iPhone to Vermont, Kate MacKinnon, a spokeswoman for AT&T said “It’s official” in today’s Burlington Free Press.

This is great news for us. Vermont is the only state that does not have an AT&T branch. Thus AT&T does not officially offer the iPhone in Vermont. While many Small Dog employees already own iPhones and love them, we’re very glad that At&T is here, making it easy for our friends and families to take advantage of everything the iPhone offers.

AT&T expects to bring 75 new jobs to Vermont, which is also excellent news.

UPDATE: In a statement to the Burlington Free Press, Small Dog Electronics CEO Don Mayer said:

Small Dog Electronics is thrilled to see Apple’s revolutionary iPhone come to Vermont at long last.   As Vermont and New England’s largest independent Apple reseller, Small Dog Electronics would love to offer our customers the iPhone.   Unfortunately, Apple does not make the iPhone available to Apple Specialists or independent authorized resellers.   We are ready to offer AT & T space in our S. Burlington store to meet the demand for the iPhone and Small Dog Electronics offers a complete line of iPhone accessories such as headphones, speakers, cases and FM Transmitters. We hope that we will be able to work with AT & T to offer the iPhone at our store in the near future.

Small Dog does offer many iPhone 3G accessories not available from AT&T or Apple. We’ll soon run some special offers on these to commemorate iPhone service in Vermont. We’ll be adding even more accessories in the next couple of weeks.

    On the lack of storage–one of the major changes that surprised me–Jobs noted that people “don’t want to manage storage… they just want to watch movies and TV shows.” And of course, that whatever hardware we have has to be “silent, cool and small.”

    Subscribers to Netflix’s streaming service (at $8.99/mo. or more) will have access to streaming content on the new Apple TV for no additional charge. In addition, Apple TV users will also be able to stream content from MobileMe, YouTube and Flickr.

    Also new in this announcement is AirPlay, which replaces AirTunes (more about this coming up in the iOS4 update article). AirPlay allows streaming from one device to an Apple TV–say, from your iPhone or iPad to your new Apple TV. Jobs demonstrated this by streaming a movie from his iPad to an Apple TV using the venue’s Wi-Fi.

    Notable tidbits: At launch, only ABC and Fox will offer their HD shows for rental at the $.99 price. The Apple TV will be available in roughly four weeks–the beginning of October–and it’s “available for preorder now.”:http://www.smalldog.com/product/76960/apple-tv-2010
