My iPod nano

Until recently, I owned an iPod mini. I saw the iPod shuffle come out and decided I didn’t want one, and I am very glad I made that decision. When the nano came out, I knew I wanted one. The problem was, I wasn’t sure I was quite ready to give up my mini yet. About a month ago, I decided to make the move. I ended up selling my mini to my dad for our iPod trade-in price, and put that money toward buying the nano.

I purchased a 4gb Black nano along with a Crumpler Winkler. The Winkler is a great size for the nano and the belt loop makes it convenient to wear. The standard Apple headphones that come with the iPod will fit if you put them in first, and then put the nano in. One thing that did happen with my particular bag was the velcro started to come unstitched. I returned it to Crumpler because it was covered under their warranty.

Crumpler warrants this product to the original purchaser against defects in workmanship and materials for the reasonable expected life of this product, (99 Years). If Crumpler rules this product to be defective, Crumpler shall at its option, repair or replace the product free of charge. This warranty does not cover defects caused by accident, abuse, misuse, improper care, negligence or normal wear.

They sent me a replacement and my new bag has no evidence of any problems with the stitching.

It seems everybody who I told I was buying a nano said they wouldn’t want one because they would be afraid of sitting on it and breaking it. I disagree. The nano seems very sturdy and I think it would take quite some force to be able to do some serious damage. One thing I did notice was that fingerprints showed up very easily and it seemed that the screen wouldn’t be hard to scratch. My solution: a MobileJuice NanoGear package which includes a screen shield, wheel film, and back cover. I am pleased with the protection it offers the entire iPod, front and back.

Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. It is a convenient size to carry around, it is very lightweight so if you are wearing it, whether it be a belt clip or an arm band or just in your pocket, you almost don’t know it is there. Obviously my advice would be to put it in some kind of case and not just throw it in the back pocket of your jeans because if you forgot it was there, which isn’t hard to do, and you sat down…well…not so good. But the color screen is much easier to read than the black and white, and solitaire is a lot more fun to play in color! If you are looking for a nice replacement for that 4gb mini or an upgrade from a shuffle, the iPod nano is a great choice!
