Dear Friends,

We had some very unseasonable weather with very hot temperatures in the 90s for the past couple of days. A front has come in and is cooling things off a bit, but the thunderstorms that rolled through last night interrupted my reception of the Celtics game on Wednesday which was a disappointing loss anyway. It looks like great weather for the Memorial Day weekend.

We were a runner-up again for the Deane C. Davis award at the Vermont Business and Industry Expo. We are very, very honored to be one of the three finalists twice in the past three years and we are going to work hard to continue to meet and exceed the criteria for the award:

  • Growth in sales or employment.
  • Commitment of company resources for participation in community projects.
  • Encouragement of employees to be involved in community events.
  • Recognition of the importance of the environment to the state as a natural and economic resource.
  • Addressing employee concerns/needs to create a positive work environment for all employees.
  • Major accomplishment(s) in the past year in any or all of the criteria.
  • Nominated businesses must have been based in Vermont for at least 10 years.

The winner this year is an extraordinary company located in Winooski, Vermont: BioTek Instruments. During their acceptance speech, the owners of BioTek talked about becoming Small Dog Electronics customers and gave a shout out to our South Burlington store team. It was a pattern as I walked around the show floor with my iPad. Customer satisfaction is everything and it was very rewarding to hear the stories from our customers at the show.

Apple is now the most valuable technology company after the close of the stock market on Wednesday as their market capitalization exceeded that of Microsoft. That alone does not mean that much, but as a milestone in Apple’s remarkable story, it is a meaningful point in time. Congratulations to Apple!

Speaking of milestones, I have some very exciting news to announce to you, our most loyal customers. On Tuesday last week, I held an all-day management retreat at my house up on Prickly Mountain and at the end of the day, I signed a lease for our next new store which will be in the Mall of New Hampshire in Manchester, NH.

We are so excited about this new chapter in Small Dog Electronics development. We have started the engines and are full speed ahead in building this new store, hiring staff and getting this store open as quickly as possible. There will be an official press release coming out soon, but I wanted Kibbles & Bytes readers to know first. Katie Wilhite will be leading the team effort to open this new store but every one of the Small Dog team will be involved on some level.

Know of any Mac heads in the Manchester area who might want to join our team? Let me know!
