Apple Releases iOS 4.0.1

This afternoon, Apple released the first revision of iOS4. Unsurprisingly, this update is primarily oriented around correcting the algorithms and formulas which are determinant of signal strength. iOS 4.0.1 resolves the issue of iPhone 3G, 3Gs, and 4 models displaying more signal bars then actually exist in a given area. While the update refines the number of signal bars displayed on the SpringBoard, it does not actually enhance signal strength or resolve the persisting antenna issues with the iPhone 4. Apple is expected to go into further detail on both of these issues at their press conference tomorrow morning.

In other iOS news, Apple has also released iOS 3.2.1 for iPad. While this more substantial update rectifies numerous issues, the biggest change is improved Wi-Fi connectivity. The other upgrades essentially eliminate bugs in several areas of the iPad’s software including video playback and copy/paste.

Both of these updates can be downloaded for free by plugging the appropriate device into iTunes and clicking the “Check for Update” button. Stay tuned for details and commentary on Apple’s iPhone 4 press conference after it takes place tomorrow.
