Veoh – The Future of Television?

Veho claims that “You will never look at television in the same way again!” So I decided to check it out.

Veoh consists of software that you install on your Mac or PC, similar to the interaction between iTunes and the iTunes Music Store, though it looks quite a bit less polished then iTunes. It’s also very similar to YouTube with the only difference that I could find being that there are more feature-length videos on Veoh.

The Veoh client software, installed on PCs or Macs, creates a virtual television network, a system that is able to distribute TV-Quality, Full-Screen video to the hundreds of millions of users around the world via broadband internet connections. Anyone from the largest studio to up-and-coming independents to aspiring enthusiasts can broadcast without the constraints of cost, capacity or geography.

Just as on the music store, you can preview movies/videos but unlike iTMS, I didn’t find anything with a cost associated with it. There are lots of old movies that are in the public domain on the site.

I started by downloading a greaat animation, “Monty Python and the Holly Grail in Lego” which is really cute.

The unique twist is that anyone can create and add video to the site and it can be full screen video. Here’s your chance to broadcast your ideas to the masses.

But is this the future of Television? It could be if the ratio of great video is high enough that slogging through lots of bad home video is worth it.
