TopTen.plist #3: Our Favorite Looks for Steve Jobs

Though the new products announced at yesterday’s Apple media event were certainly intriguing, they paled in comparison to the biggest surprise: Steve Jobs officially ditched the mock turtleneck! Yes, you read that correctly! The standard long sleeve black t-shirt worn by Mr. Jobs yesterday was missing that one crucial 1/2 inch of collar awesomeness. Obviously considering the well being of his audience, Mr. Jobs still appeared in his Levi’s 501s and New Balance 991s. Knowing that changing more than one element of his attire would inevitably cause mass hysteria, riots, and worse amongst event goers, Jobs kept it safe and classic with his other wardrobe choices. This massive stylistic shift away from the early 90’s fashion staple prompted us to recount some of our favorite Steve Jobs looks from over the years.

10. 1970’s Hippie Jobs:

Though images from this period are relatively scarce, Steve Jobs went through a phase of spiritual enlightenment towards the middle of the decade. After embarking on a trip to India, Jobs returned with a shaved head and a fervor for Indian clothing. Prior to founding Apple in 1976, Jobs embraced the lifestyle of the counter culture and would often don tie dyed garments.

9. Mustachioed Jobs:

Among the more epic looks portrayed by Steve Jobs were the mustache years. Though intermittent in appearance, throughout the late 1970’s and early 80’s Steve graced us with the timeless old cookie duster from time to time.

8. Suave Macintosh Launch Steve:

Though a senior Apple executive was recently quoted as saying “We’re Apple, we don’t even own suits.” in an exchange with an AT&T executive who commented on his casual attire, Mr. Jobs is no stranger to a suit. Perhaps the most iconic photo of suit clad Steve is that which graced the cover of the premier issue of MacWorld. This issue, which coincided with the 1984 launch of the Macintosh, features Jobs in pinstripe suit. Though this look followed Jobs through the mid 1980’s, it would soon be abandoned as Apple’s brand image and attitudes shifted.

7. The Bow Tie:

I have a personal rule about wearing the good ol’ bow. If you aren’t at a prom, a waiter, or James Bond, don’t do it. Jobs violated this rule at several occasions during the suit phase. Though he does appear in several photos with a variety of colored and patterned bow ties, this look was relatively short lived.

6. The Black Long Sleeve T-Shirt:

Though this look may only be a day old, it marks a landmark event in Job’s fashion history. The step away from the mock turtleneck is a bold move. Deviating from the norm has caused Apple fans worldwide to question: What will he wear next?

5. – 1. The Mock Turtle:

Classic Steve. A look so bold, we decided it needed five of its own spaces on the list. It’s also fairly convenient given the fact that Steve hasn’t changed his look in the past ten years. Intense garment analysis has provided us with the exact shirt Jobs has worn so frequently in the past years. The St. Croix Classic Long Sleeve Mock can be yours for a cool $175.00! Though it’s available in a range of colors, we aren’t sure why you’d choose anything other than black. If you’re feeling bold and want to prove your Apple devotion, click here.
