Apple Introduces 'iTun.es' Link Shortener

This time last month, several sources discovered an idle domain in Apple’s possession. The domain in question, iTun.es, was purchased by the company in December of 2006 and had lie dormant until recently. Over the weekend, Apple deployed a new link shortening platform which utilizes Ping and Twitter integration to share typically bloated iTunes Store URLs. Much like general link shortening services such as TinyURL and Tiny, Apple’s service uses iTun.es to shorten links to a “tweetable” length. To take advantage of the service, users need only to select the drop down arrow to the right of the “Buy Album” button, and select “Share on Twitter.” Here is an example of an iTun.es shortened link.
