Dear Friends,
The lobster population in Maine had a marked decline as the Spawn of the Devil Motorcycle Club (all six of us) made our way to the pine tree state. We headed out on Saturday and immediately had to detour around the massive flooding that hit Montpelier and Barre from the thunderstorms. There was about a foot of mud on the road in some places and it is sad to see businesses and homes destroyed by the flooding.
We made our way over the Kancamagus highway and stopped in at White Horse Press in Conway, a great supplier of motorcycle gear, and then had our first lobsters at our favorite New Hampshire restaurant, the Lobster Pot. We arrived in Maine before dark, had a wonderful dinner and spent Sunday touring around, eating lobster at every meal—my lobster benedict was fabulous!
The lightning storm killed my DSL modem and after I replaced it, I found that it had also fried two ethernet switches at my house. My guess is that the surge came in through the phone line and then traveled to the (antique) thin ethernet cable connecting the two sections of my house. One new ethernet switch, one new DSL modem and a little re-configuring and I am back online at home. Lesson? Use surge protectors that also protect your phone line! Connectivity withdrawal is a serious illness, for me at least!
WWDC is next week and we are all anxious to see the new offerings from Apple. I am very excited for Mac OS X Lion, iOS 5 and whatever the features of iCloud turn out be. We all know that it will be a game changer as Steve Jobs steps up on stage to deliver the keynote!
