As I experienced firsthand this morning, AT&T is reporting a “massive outage” of their 3G and 4G networks in New England. Customers in Vermont in particular have reported higher-than-average “dead” zones, and while 4G doesn’t exist here (yet), 3G and EDGE coverage has been sporadic at best.
The phones currently affected are iPhones and Droids on AT&T exclusively. If your phone is “Searching…” without an end in sight, you’re not alone, and AT&T hopes to resolve the problem within the next 24-72 hours.
Watch this space as we’ll update if further information becomes available.
UPDATE: As of this writing, my iPhone has been inaccessible with a black screen and is vibrating repeatedly for about 30 minutes. Apparently, this is “normal” behavior as AT&T works to fix their network problems…
