Apple Releases Mac OS X 10.7.1

Yesterday afternoon Apple released Mac OS X 10.7.1, the first major update to Lion. The maintenance update comes just four weeks after the new OS was released and includes a number of bug fixes and security improvements. The major fixes in the release will:

  • Address an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari
  • Resolve an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out
  • Improve the reliability of Wi-Fi connections
  • Resolve an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion

Apple has also released a version of Mac OS X v10.7.1 specifically for mid-2011 MacBook Air and Mac mini models that addresses the issues above and also includes three additional fixes that:

  • Resolve an issue where MacBook Air may boot up when MagSafe Adapter is attached
  • Resolve an issue causing intermittent display flickering on MacBook Air
  • Resolve an issue that causes the SD card slot in Mac mini to run at reduced speed with SD and SDHC media

Complete information about the updates is available here.

Information about the security improvements included in both updates is available here.

The updates are available via Software Update or direct download and recommended for all Lion users. Users of mid-2011 MacBook Air and Mac mini models may want to obtain the update through Software Update to ensure they receive the proper version. As always, we recommend users backup their data prior to installing operating system updates.
