Apple has released an update to fix a video issue affecting a small number of 15” MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) computers, which were manufactured between April 2010 and February 2011. According to Apple, machines affected by this issue “may intermittently freeze or stop displaying video on the built-in display or on an external display connected to the MacBook Pro.” Users may also receive a restart warning message preceding either loss of video or the display turning black or gray.
15” MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) users running OS X 10.7 Lion who have experienced this issue can access the video update, called MacBook Pro Video Update 1.0, via Software Update. Please note that OS X v. 10.7.2, also available through Software Update or by download from Apple’s support site, is required for installing the update. MacBook Pro Video Update 1.0 is also available on Apple’s support site.
15” MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) computers running OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard will need to be diagnosed by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to determine if service is needed to remedy a video issue. Our techs will evaluate the machine to see if it requires service, and we will perform the repair as quickly as possible to minimize your time without your machine. Only machines experiencing intermittent video issues as described above need to be brought in for evaluation.
