Small Dog on Rocketboom!

I was working at my desk yesterday, when a call came through from a woman with an english accent. Turns out it was Joanne Colan, the new host over at Rocketboom.com – one of the coolest, most fun (and informative) video blogs on the internet! Rocketboom is hugely popular – they’ve truly figured out how to make syndicated web-based video work. From their website:

“Rocketboom is a three minute daily videoblog based in New York City. We cover and create a wide range of information and commentary from top news stories to quirky internet culture. Agenda includes releasing each new clip at 9am ET, Monday through Friday. With a heavy emphasis on international arts, technology and weblog drama, Rocketboom is presented via online video and widely distributed through RSS.

Rocketboom is currently one of the most popular videoblogs on the internet with more daily subscribers for original syndicated multimedia content than nearly any other site, including podcasts.”

The subject of this show was “webcam adventures.” Smalldog.com has had live webcams since 1995 (I mistakenly said 2001 in the interview.) We consider the webcams to be an important part of our website. Right now four of them are down for upgrading and maintenance, but we will always have some form of live video available on Smalldog.com.

Small Dog Electronics has a great interest in creative uses for web-distributed video. It was an honor to be part of Rocketboom for a few seconds!

  • iPad Tricorder + Happy Birthday Carl!

Today is our amazing technician Carl Grasso’s birthday. Carl is great guy and an avowed sci fi fan. He has one of the coolest iPad mods I’ve seen. He took a black Verso case and affixed the classic (and classy looking) Star Fleet insignia from Star Trek on the outside. On the inside, he’s running an, er, modified version of the iPad that looks like a Star Trek Tricorder. Images below.

Happy birthday to Carl! And we have to say it: live long and prosper!
