Many of us have work numbers with extensions and you may notice that there isn’t an option to include a contact’s direct extension in your Contacts app. Well, here is a little trick that will allow you to include a contact’s extension and call them directly.

To add an extension to any of your contacts, navigate to that person’s address card and select the number you wish to add or edit. While entering the number take note of the “+*#” key in the bottom left. Tapping this will reveal a list of symbols that have functions within the iOS software. After you have typed the main number navigate to the symbols menu and tap the “pause” button, which will appear as a comma. After that enter the pound symbol with the extension following it. Once you have done that the number should look something like this: 1-(234)-555-1234,#999.

Now when you select that contact’s work number to call, the phone will dial the main number and then wait two-seconds before dialing the extension. Voilà! You now have a one-click solution for dialing your work contacts’ numbers that have extensions.
