iPhone Update

I saw it – the gorgeous new iPhone. Click on the photo below to see a couple more photos of the iPhone on our Flickr page. The area around the iPhone was packed, so for now I was unable to get really close to get some razor sharp images.

I can say that it does look fantastic – well built, with great silver metal (which looks thicker and less glossy than the metal on the back of the iPod videos), with only a silver Apple on the back case as embellishment. There is only one real button – the “home” button – and a couple of recessed switches.

With those smooth corners and no bulky antenna or plastic keypad, the iPhone would slip nicely into a pocket.

The screen looks great – obviously larger than the iPod video, but also notably brighter and higher resolution.

As mentioned above, there was a big crowd around the iPhone, with lots of oooh and ahhhhs. There were also people grumbling about Apple’s exclusive arrangement with Cingular. I’m not crazy about that, either – in fact I really don’t like it at all, because I can’t currently become a Cingular customer in Vermont. There good reasons Apple did this – for example, they needed a network partner for the Visual Voicemail feature.

If the iPhone supports Skype, than it might be possible to use the iPhone as an expensive – but super cool – wi/fi phone / iPod / Palm Pilot

Also, it’s extremely likely that the Multi-touch technology will trickle down to other Apple products – like a touch screen video iPod…
