Just last week, I posted an image on Instagram showing a screen shot of my Notification Center. I had taken it because the weather read “Showers today. It’s currently 55; the high will be 54.” I posted it because I thought it was funny that the current temp was warmer than the the high for the day. Right below the weather, it also read, “Right now, it would take you about 53 minutes to drive to work.”

People were not so concerned by the odd weather, but instead, multiple friends commented on how I got all of that information to show up on my Notification Center. I was actually a little surprised they didn’t know how to get this information, but then again, I guess I have a bit of an advantage!

If you aren’t currently showing information like this in your Notification Center (which you can view by swiping down on the top of your screen on your iOS device) and you’d like to be, here you go:

To turn your notifications on:

  • Open up Settings and then choose Notification Center.
  • Make sure that Notifications View and Today View are both turned on.
  • Also make sure that Today Summary is turned on under Today View.

Here, you can customize you you’d like things to be sorted on this screen as well as which apps you would like to be included on the Notification Center.

If you’re still not getting the weather to show up, make sure one more thing is turned on:

  • In Settings, choose Privacy and make sure your Location Services are turned on.
  • At the bottom of this screen, you should see the last option to be System Services.
  • Make sure “Traffic” is turned on if you’d like to know how long it will take you to get to work and back home again.

After turning all of these settings on, you should get the weather*, traffic info, and whatever else you chose to appear.

You’re now well on your way to having all sorts of fun information appear in just one swipe!

Note: A few of my friends did complete all of these steps and still were unable to get the weather to appear. If you aren’t seeing them, try turning your phone on and off again. I found that with a few people it did take a few minutes to appear, so just be patient and give iOS 7 a bit to work its magic!
