Digital Photography

I’ve always had some interest in photography. Unfortunately during my high school and college careers photography and digital photography never seemed to fit into my schedule. I’ve always loved to watch my friends in their photography classes, the photos they took and just wished I could do it too.

A couple years ago I got my first point-and-shoot digital camera and I loved it. It was the Canon PowerShot SD200 Digital Elph. It was really nice for the simple photos I took with it and it fit in my pocket so I was bringing it everywhere. It could even make little movies which was fun. I think I took about 10-15 photos that I was really proud of and still show to people.

About 3 months ago, I purchased my first ‘decent’ camera. It’s the Canon Digital Rebel XT. I took some photos with it and noticed a drastically better product. Of course I didn’t really know how to use the camera and always kept thinking about how much smarter the camera was then me. I was still on the beginner level of photography. I think I was getting a few lucky shots in there because a couple of my photos came out really good. Of course, I would like more then just a few photos to be good, I wanted all of them to look nice!

Today I purchased, The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby, Aperture Pro Training Series: Getting Started with Aperture by Estelle McGechie and Apple Pro Training Series: Aperture by Orlando Luna and Ben Long. I’ve only read chapter one of Scott Kelby’s book but I’ve learned 7 or 8 really good tips. I’ve even fixed up one of my photos in Photoshop and it looks so much better then the original photo!

I not only want to learn how to shoot good pictures but also how to work with Photoshop and Aperture. So here’s to a new adventure in digital photography! I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!

Small Dog’s very own Matt Kiedaisch is into photography and has some really cool images on his website!
