With all the hoopla about the recent release of the Apple Watch, its been easy to overlook the release of the completely redesigned notebook from Apple, the MacBook!
Incredibly thin, super light and environmentally friendly, the new MacBook is at the same time pleasing to look at and a marvel in design and engineering.
Display
By now we’ve all heard of the glorious new Retina Display. If you haven’t, here’s a quick run down. Remember the good old days when your TV had a cathode ray tube and the image on the screen was presented to you by a series of lines that ran up and down your screen?? We do. Most new televisions today display the image with dots (called pixels) instead of lines. A standard high-definition television have a resolution of 1920 X 1080 or just over 2 million pixels.
The MacBook has a resolution of 2304 X 1440 over 3 million pixels. This provides a sharp, crystal clear display no matter what angle you are looking at your MacBook! Even the pixels have been redesigned to allow more light to pass through making this Retina Display the most energy efficient yet.
Keyboard
To be able to fit a full sized keyboard in such a small device it had to be redesigned from the bottom up. The sensor the key strikes is a newly designed butterfly mechanism which ensures a more stable response no matter what part of the key you press. This new design provides greater control as you type and a satisfying response with every key stroke. Each key has its own individual LED light to allow for more uniform brightness.
Trackpad
This has also been redesigned from the bottom up. Introducing the new Force Touch Trackpad and NO its “not the track pad you’re looking for…”
You will get the same response from every spot on the new Track Pad. It can tell the difference between a simple “tap” to a hard “click”. From a document you may perform a “hard click” on a word and connect to dictionary or wikipedia. When you are watching a movie you may use that same “hard click” to fast forward. The harder click can do many different things depending on what application you are using.
USB-C
How many times have you gone to plug in a USB device and it was upside down?? Good news, there will no longer be a struggle to determine just which end is “up”. Like the new Lightning Charger for the iPhones, this USB connector goes in right side up OR upside down!!
Soon to be the industry standard, the USB-C can handle charging, super fast data transfer and video output that supports VGA, HDMI, and Display Port connections.
All of this in a connector that’s one-third the size of today’s USB connectors.
Beautiful on the inside too!
The MacBook has been redesigned from the inside out as well! The brains of the MacBook is the new Intel Core M Broadwell processor. We’ve been able to stuff more transistors inside than my mom’s stuffed peppers!
Taking cues from the iPad and the iPad, the inside of the MacBook contains a carefully redesigned logic board that is smaller, faster, quieter and cleaner than any device we’ve introduced. It sips a mere 5 Watts of power and does not generate much heat, so there is no need for a cooling fan. We’ve packed up to 8GB of start up memory and up to 512 GB of storage. Your hard drive is on a Solid State Flash based storage so there are no moving parts whatsoever. The batteries has also been redesigned and now terraced so they fit all the way to the edge of the MacBook. Despite the tiny nature of the MacBook its also fast and functional.
With all that power and functionality its environmentally friendly as well. Its made from highly recyclable materials. The battery requires less frequent charging so it’s highly energy efficient. The MacBook is almost as green as a bushel of Granny Smith apples!!
The future of computing is here…we call it the MacBook!!
woof, woof!
Happy Computing!
