  • Retina Display MacBook Pro Announced at WWDC

    Those of us who were drooling over the possibilities for Apple’s new machines finally got our wish at this year’s WWDC, and I am not disappointed. The big kid on the block was retired as Apple sent the 17″ MacBook Pro to the machine graveyard and replaced it with the new 15″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

    This filled a nice niche as it uses the same principles behind the MacBook Air — full flash storage and no SuperDrive — resulting in a slim profile but still containing the power of the MacBook Pro. This finally gives us a device that can run heavy duty applications and games while still being as portable and travel-friendly as the Air.

    The Retina part of the name isn’t just for show either. It packs 5.1 million pixels into the 15″ display creating a resolution double what the standard MacBook Pro has. That is going to mean one beautiful, beautiful screen.

    There has been some grumbling about the fact that the MBP with Retina cannot be upgraded, but that is the trade-off for the 4.46 pound body and a profile slimmer than my finger (and I have dainty fingers). And remember, the basic MBP with Retina display has almost as much power as a tricked out standard 15″ does. Worth the wait? I think so.

  • Third Rail Mobility System 3-in-1 for iPhone 4/4S

    The Mobility System from Third Rail is great. It offers a decent level of protection and has an optional battery attachment as well to charge your phone on the go. Unlike most other battery cases, this one uses an external battery rather than an internal battery. This is great because it allows you to have a nice sleek case, and a little extra power when you need it.

    The battery hooks onto the back of the case by sliding into a locked position. You can also get an extra battery for it as well, so that you can travel with more batteries if you need to. Another great feature of this case is the fact that the battery doesn’t only charge iPhones. With the included USB adapter you can charge all your USB devices from this device.

    All in all this is a very versatile option for someone who would like to have a little extra power for their portable devices. With the ability to charge on the go you never need to worry about running out of power again. Another nice thing about this product is the price. Most of these battery cases are over $100, but Mobility from Third Rail is only $89.99. That is a great value as it allows you to do so much.

  • It's Time to Celebrate!

    Summer is finally here, and so begins the seasonal rush to cram in countless numbers of summer fun activities in what seems like the shortest time possible! My family’s first official kick off to summer is always the local 4th of July parade. My daughter squealed with excitement last week when I told her it was almost time to go to a parade. Seeing the excitement in her eyes always takes me back to my childhood. This year my youngest will hopefully be old enough to appreciate the festivities around her.

    Apple has certainly started off this summer with tons of excitement as well. Have you seen the new Retina display Macbook Pro yet? If you haven’t you should stop into any one of our stores as our retail locations have these machines out for all to see! Inventory is still limited in these models, but don’t let that deter you from visiting because the entire laptop lineup has had upgrades. We also still have inventory in stock of the now discontinued models. Discontinued models are a great way to get a powerful new Mac and save some cash along the way!

  • I am getting ready for Independence Day and this year it is a bit more than usual. Grace and I will have our annual 4th of July party after the big Warren, VT parade but this year Grace is out visiting her Mom until the 3rd so I will be getting all the party preparations going. Also, I set the parade as the goal for the debut of my electric motorcycle and I am happy to report that as of today, it is looking pretty good that the bike will be ready for the parade. I just got off the phone with my friend, Steve Miracle, who is an electric vehicle expert and I am heading over there this afternoon to fire it up for the first time. Powered by a 20kW hub motor and holding a lot of batteries, it is our goal to achieve at least a 75 mile range and top speed of 100MPH. I’ll post some pictures from the parade next week.
