The iPod is so wrong! It's so stupid!*

  • From a comment on the MacRumors message board, the day the original 5GB iPod was released.

Anticipation is building for great new Mac products as WWDC approaches next week. Apple might introduce no new products, or maybe an incidental upgrade or two, or maybe something that is ground-breaking and incredible. There is always a wave of excitement and anticipation ahead of Apple’s conferences. Then, there is typically a wave of disappointment that Apple didn’t release exactly what people were dreaming of – a new Newton, an Apple cell phone, a tablet-style portable, a video iPod with a really big screen, a 25” MacBook Pro, a MacPro with ten optical drives, a home media center, an iJucier, etc etc.

Over at MacRumors, I was reading the archived message board from when the iPod was originally introduced. In hindsight, the angry and disappointed comments are amusing. For example:

“I still can’t believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently! Why oh why would they do this?! It’s so wrong! It’s so stupid!”
