iPod touch 4th Generation – Review
The last time I bought a new iPod was the 2nd gen. nano around 2006. I used it for many years, and was a fan of the click wheel controls. Unfortunately, it broke around 2008, and I never replaced it. When Apple released the 4th generation iPod touch this Fall, I was really excited about all of the new features and apps.
Originally, I was considering an iPad, but decided I wanted something a little bit smaller to start with. I didn’t want to give up the ability to surf the web or check my email, which is why I wasn’t interested in other iPods. I also wasn’t ready to terminate my cell phone contract and pick up an iPhone. However, I wanted similar functionality, which is what led me to buy the latest iPod touch.
The iPod touch is everything I could have imagined and more. I was using it for three days straight before I could put it down! With the new Retina display, images, videos, and photos look great. Even the wallpaper and app icons look amazing. When looking at the display or playing a recorded video, the quality is stunning. Not only does this amazing piece of technology produce excellent images and video, but sports a thin, sleek design.
With its light weight and thin design, I take the iPod with me everywhere I go– sometimes even leaving my phone behind! With the amazing number of apps available, it is possible to do almost anything on this device. Setting up e-mail and Wi-Fi is extremely easy, just like any other Apple device. You can even set up apps to send and receive texts while in a Wi-Fi area–another reason I don’t need my phone. I use the iPod to replace other devices as well.
With all of the HD titles available in the App Store, the iPod touch beats the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP for games. Why would you want a clunky gaming device, when you could have a device that is capable of doing more after you are done playing? Not only can you game, but you can access social networking sites and the entire web from this device over Wi-Fi. In my opinion, it beats carrying a computer or even an iPad around. Plus, it offers similar features to an iPhone, but without the monthly expense.
The new A4 processor runs apps seamlessly. If you don’t want multiple pages of apps, folders are a great solution. You can drag and drop multiple apps into folders to organize them. With iOS 4.1, the touch can run multiple apps at once. You can easily switch from one app to another, picking up where you left off in each. This is a nice feature when you want to quickly check your mail or change a song.
I would definitely recommend the 4th gen. iPod touch. With its sleek design, amazing Retina display, portability, and endless apps, this is a great device for almost anyone.
