You Quit the App. Why Is It Still Running?

Quitting a Mac app doesn’t always stop everything it’s doing. Some apps leave background processes running to sync files, check for updates, or finish other work. In macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple makes this activity more visible: you’ll see a notification the first time an app continues running after you quit, and hovering over its Dock icon reveals a Running in Background label. The notification doesn’t mean anything is wrong; the app may be finishing work you asked it to do. If you don’t need its background activity, or suspect it’s slowing your Mac, Control-click its Dock icon and choose Stop Running in Background. To prevent future background activity, go to System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions and turn off the app under Background App Activity. Be selective: turning off this permission can interfere with syncing or automatic updates. If an app stops working as expected, turn its permission back on.

Social Media: An app can keep working after you quit it. macOS 27 Golden Gate makes that background activity easier to spot, and gives you controls to stop it when it’s no longer useful.

Vermont banned non-essential government travel to those states and our Governor sent a letter to entice PayPal to move their 400 jobs to Vermont after they announced they were cancelling their expansion into NC. Good idea, because Vermont has always been a leader in banning discrimination from being the first state to make slavery illegal to the first to enact civil unions.

It looks like a cold weekend in Vermont and I won’t bore you with the forecast down here in the Keys but I hope you have an awesome weekend!

  • Grace has tired of riding the little Vespa scooter so we are selling it. I bought an almost antique Victory cruiser so we both have bikes down here. I am going to Jasper, GA to pick it up this weekend and riding it back through the back roads of Georgia. It should be a nice little break.

I am going to miss Johnny Dread and the reggae show down here but I am sure Grace will be there. It is hard to believe that we are heading into March already. My granddaughter, Gracie, is a Feb 29 baby so she is celebrating her 4th birthday as a 12-year old. My other granddaughter, Khadija, was off this week visiting colleges in the Boston area. Sure makes me feel old. I remember announcing Khadija’s birth here in Kibbles with the line “just call me gramps” and they still do!
