Apple Updates Macs and iPads

This week, Apple quietly introduced several new updates to the iPad and Mac lineups. While mostly a change in chips, perfomance is enhanced and the MacBook Air actually had a price decrease in the face of new tariffs.

MacBook Air with M4 Chip

Apple unveiled the new MacBook Air, now powered by the M4 chip. This enhancement delivers faster performance and improved energy efficiency, offering up to 18 hours of battery life. The device features a 12MP Center Stage camera, enhanced external display support (you can finally run two external monitors and the MacBook Air display!), and maintains a thin, lightweight design. A new sky blue color option joins the existing midnight, starlight, and silver choices. Available in 13- and 15-inch sizes, the MacBook Air starts at $999, with preorders open now and shipping commencing on March 12.

iPad Air with M3 Chip

The iPad Air lineup has been refreshed with the integration of the M3 chip, doubling the speed compared to the previous M1 version. This upgrade enhances performance and efficiency, supporting iPadOS 18 and Apple Intelligence features. The iPad Air is available in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, starting at $599 and $799 respectively, with deliveries beginning on March 12. A new Magic Keyboard accessory has also been introduced to complement the device.

Mac Studio with M3 Ultra Chip

Apple also announced the new Mac Studio, now equipped with the M3 Ultra processor. Designed for AI developers and creative professionals, this desktop offers enhanced performance and supports up to 96GB of memory. The Mac Studio starts at $1,999, with preorders available now and in-store availability starting March 12.

These product announcements reflect Apple’s continued move to Apple silicon and incremental performance enhancement. While apparently not worthy of a special Apple event, these are great upgrades to the MacBook Air and iPad Air family as well as a great upgrade for the Mac Studio.
